Trade Marketing Manager Emerging Markets

reporting into the Head of Trade Emerging Markets for our Global Sales Departement based in Basel, Switzerland.

Position summary

The EM Trade Marketer will build the EM trade programs, which will accelerate sell-in and sell-out in Trade channels in key Abbott markets, enhancing Abbott’s Global brands performance at Pharmacy level in the main markets. He / She will be the bridge between Global Brand Marketing and Trade Marketers at the country level.

Main responsibilities:

Develop best-in-class trade marketing programs, with a strong emphasis on

In-store execution

  • Provide best-in-class merchandising and POSM that enables the local affiliates to drive availability and visibility of their SKU’s

  • Create and implement trade campaigns that assist the pharmacist in their sell-out, to increase brand and corporate SOV, improving visibility and monitoring progress and evaluating ROI.

  • Have a detailed understanding of the Pharmacy channel landscape in key markets, and identify which levers help the pharmacist in creating Abbott presence on-shelf and in-store

  • Support numeric and weighted distribution of our portfolio in the affiliates

Category Management

  • Develop and implement a category story for the global TA’s that allows for portfolio selling in pharmacies.

  • Collaborate with Global Marketing Team to create a trade toolkit (planogram, promotion, merchandizing, communication…) for key accounts or special projects.

  • Provide vital input in the creation of the detail aids for pharmacist by reviewing the key data the pharmacists need to see

  • Optimize the listing of all new products in retail and ensure shelf positioning is in line with Abbott merchandising principles.

Shopper Journey Understanding

  • Develop an understanding of the pharmacy landscape in key markets to identify levers for switch reduction

  • Understand the shoppers’ behavior at Point of Sales (POS) in key markets through shopper journey /path-to-purchase research. Pro-actively screen for shoppers’ behaviors trends, drive appropriate studies to understand shopper’s behaviors at pharmacy

  • Assist with creation of product training for pharmacy staff and detailing materials with tailored messages for global brands.

Collaboration with Global Marketing team / Local Trade Marketing team

  • Help formalize the Trade Marketing actions in the Global Brand Plans and ensure the Trade Marketing Plans execution with the affiliate Trade Marketing Manager

  • Organise Abbott Emerging Markets Annual Trade Conference which will generate excitement, knowledge, and best practice sharing


  • Work closely with local trade marketing team to ensure trade marketing strategies are aligned with sales objectives and revenue targets

  • Understand the Pharmacy landscape and understand switch level in key markets

  • Play an active part with Global Brand Marketing Teams, understanding accurately the brands’ priorities, bringing to marketing teams documented field insights, pro-actively proposing initiatives to translate brands’ strategy in the trade channel

  • Assist in tracking Trade ROI, KPIs, and suggest corrective actions

  • Developing and communicate a “Trade Centre of Excellence” that all countries can share to and re-apply

  • Organise regional Trade meetings and Annual Awards for the best in class trade marketing initiatives in the region (Collect and share trade marketing best practice for profitable re-application)

  • Track, collect and review Affiliate Trade Plans, Trade Marketing Plans, and key markets Key Account Plans as well as OTC launch plans

  • Play an active part with Global Brand Marketing Teams, understanding accurately the brands’ priorities, bringing to marketing teams documented field insights, pro-actively proposing initiatives to translate at Trade level the brands’ strategy


  • Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Business/Marketing/Commerce

  • 4+ years of in pharmacy sales experience that involved working with customers to deliver results

  • 3+ years of consumer marketing/trade marketing experience

  • Experience in health care (OTC, Generics) and/or Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and/or Retail is a must

  • Regional and/or Global experience is an asset.

  • Emerging Markets experience is an asset

  • Very strong Business English language and Communication skills
