JOB DESCRIPTION:

Core Job Responsibilities

Provides legal services and resolves legal matters for assigned responsibilities or clients. The Paralegal

Position is the mid-level position for paralegals in Abbott’s Legal Division. The Commercial Paralegal will:

  • Provides paralegal support to one Commercial Attorney and one Patent Attorney in Abbott Molecular

  • Performs substantive legal work that requires knowledge of legal concepts, contract terminology, and identifies basic legal issues related to assigned matter, for example drafting and responding to routine contract matters.

  • Resolves routine legal matters in area of responsibility with direct supervision from more experienced paralegals, paralegal supervisor and/or attorneys.

  • Assists more experienced paralegals and/or attorneys in resolving legal issues on projects involving multiple disciplines within the Legal Division and/or multiple functional areas or divisions within Abbott.

  • Represents Legal Division internally to clients, serving as direct point of contact for AMD legal group.

  • Interface with internal clients in preparing commercial agreements such as relating to contracts & pricing, professional service agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and material transfer agreements.

  • Support attorneys on more complex legal agreements, assembling exhibits and schedules, coordinating input from other stakeholders, and conducting document/version comparison.

  • Maintains an Agreement log, tracking status and actions

  • Help maintain all agreements in document management system for permanent record.

  • Maintain templates in document management system and help prepare updates to templates.

  • Provides assistance for project work, such as preparation of playbook for client use.

  • Serves on committees as needed in the legal division.

Supervisory/ Management Responsibility

  • May direct assigned support staff in their responsibilities.

  • May participate in training of other paralegals

  • Typically reports to Paralegal Supervisor or an attorney.

Position Accountability & Scope

  • Advises legal department managers of project developments in a timely manner

  • Executes core job responsibilities in a timely manner

  • Assigned matters typically have a significant impact on business activities and operations

  • Interacts across all levels of management

  • No direct department budget responsibility

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s Degree and/or relevant legal education (Paralegal certificate)

Minimum Experience/ Training

  • Generally 2 - 4 years of relevant legal experience

  • Developing proficiency in area of responsibility
