This position is responsible for providing technical knowledge and leadership for packaging engineering at Abbott Molecular. This position is responsible for all packaging engineering at Abbott Molecular.

The ability to effectively coordinate activities among the other areas of the division and project teams is critical to be successful.

Primary job responsibilities include:

  • providing technical expertise on a wide range of packaging issues

  • designing new packaging

  • modifying the designs of existing packaging

  • managing the division’s Hazardous Material shipping program

  • applying leadership skills to manage projects

  • establishing organizational alignment through effective communication.

This position functionally resides in the engineering group, reporting directly to the Manager of Engineering.

The position will frequently interface and coordinate with Supply Chain, Operations, and Commercial organizations.

Successful candidate must demonstrate the following technical and leadership skills:

  • Thorough technical knowledge of a wide range of packaging materials, structures and manufacturing processes.

  • Understanding of GMP related packaging requirements

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Sound decision making

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively interface with broad cross functional teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently.


  • A Bachelors Degree in Engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a desired 5+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience. A post-graduate education/degree is desired, and may contribute towards the desired years of experience. - Has demonstrated competency within a discipline. - Possesses a strong technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures. Works on problems of complex scope where analysis of situations or data involves multiple competing factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. - Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators. - Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations. - Works well with other engineers in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment. - Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences. - Has a technical background in health care, nutritional products, laboratory diagnostics, medical devices, pharmaceutical, or similar industries (preferred). - Has demonstrated competency with financial systems and in fiscal control.
