In Ireland, Abbott employs almost 3,000 people across 11 sites. Abbott has six manufacturing facilities located in Clonmel, Cootehill, Donegal, Longford and Sligo and a third party manufacturing management operation in Sligo. It has commercial and support operations in Dublin and shared services in Dublin and Westport. Abbott serves the Irish market with a diverse range of health care products including diagnostics, medical devices, nutritionals and branded generic pharmaceuticals. Abbott has been operating in Ireland since 1946.

Abbott Diabetes Care - Donegal

Established in 2006, Abbott Donegal manufactures of test strips which are used in Abbott’s blood glucose monitoring meters. The Donegal facility will help supply the global market in order to meet the rapid growth in demand due to the increased incidence and detection of diabetes worldwide. The site has undergone considerable development in the past three years to upgrade the facility, including internal re-construction to improve the layout and look of the plant. In addition the facility HVAC equipment has been upgraded to improve efficiency and improve environmental performance.

A key development in the Donegal site has been the introduction of a Printing Process to the plant. Previously all base substrate for product has been printed externally; however from February 2010 all substrate will be printed on site.

The facility is located on the outskirts of Donegal town and is expanding its operations presently.

Primary function

To ensure that the accounts provide a true and fair view of the financial results of the Plant while adhering to reporting deadlines and preparing Plan and Latest best estimates ( LBE ) of the future financial performance of the site and thereby contributing to the delivery of safe and effective products that meet the customer needs while maintaining compliance

Major responsibilities

  • Production and analysis of the monthly and annual financial reports

  • Prepare the site annual Plan

  • Prepare the monthly update of the Latest best Estimate ( LBE ) of the current Plan

  • Account for Capital & Employment grants

  • Accounts for prepayments and other receivables

  • Deal with any Ad Hoc queries from Division or the site

  • Prepares Requests for capital Expenditure and Tracks Capital Cash flow

  • Any other work deemed appropriate by the Plant Controller

  • Encourages open communication and effective team work

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Corporate and local policies

Minimum Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business , Commerce or similar Third level qualification

  • Professional Accounting Qualification

Minimum Training and Experience

At least three years relevant experience in a similar business or educational environment preferred
