In Ireland, Abbott employs almost 3,000 people across 11 sites. Abbott has six manufacturing facilities located in Clonmel, Cootehill, Donegal, Longford and Sligo and a third party manufacturing management operation in Sligo. It has commercial and support operations in Dublin and shared services in Dublin and Westport. Abbott serves the Irish market with a diverse range of health care products including diagnostics, medical devices, nutritionals and branded generic pharmaceuticals. Abbott has been operating in Ireland since 1946.

Abbott Diagnostics Division – Longford (ADDLF)

Abbott established the first diagnostics manufacturing facility in Sligo in 1994 to manufacture blood-screening products and reagents. In 2004, Abbott Diagnostics operations in Ireland expanded with the opening of a second facility in Longford. The plant was first occupied in December 2004. Manufacturing commenced in March of the following year and the first product (Architect TSH) was launched in December of 2005.

The Longford facility plays a key role in helping Abbott to meet the increasing global demand for diagnostic testing in areas such as infectious disease, cancer, thyroid and cardiovascular diseases.

We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Statistician and this role will involve the following:

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead Programme Statistical requirements for the Longford Site

  • Manage Programme Statistical and Specification Setting Team at the Longford Site. Ensure that the plant meets the quality requirements of its customers with respect to statistical calculations, Division & Corporate Policies and other external standards.

  • Provide statistical support and direction to cross functional teams (at global and site level) in compliance with all regulations and quality system requirements.

  • Provide direction and support to ensure a valid statistical basis exists for sampling plans, design verification studies, and investigations, as required (at global and site level)

  • Approve experimental studies protocols, reports and assessments as required, from a quality system documentation perspective (at global and site level).

  • Explain and defend experimental data using statistical rationale at meetings and on conference calls with Abbott personnel from other sites, as required.

  • Provide training on statistical techniques and the use of Abbott approved statistical software.

  • Support Process and Product Monitoring at the AIDD Longford site.

  • Liaise with and seek appropriate advice from other Abbott plants worldwide.

  • Preparation of procedures, reports, presentations and metrics as required.

  • Ensure safe work practices and behaviour on the job at all times.

  • Be compliant to the relevant EHS Global & Technical Standards.

  • Manage team and self ETMS Learning TO DO LIST

  • Manage team and self KRONOS attendance system

  • Conduct business in a manner that will protect human health, safety and the environment by complying with all applicable EHS laws, as well at the Abbott Global and Technical standards.

  • Team Manager for Project/Programme Statistical and Specification Setting Team

Education

The following level of education provides a necessary foundation for this Job function:

  • Qualification in Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computing or relevant work experience.

Background

The following experience provides a necessary foundation for this Job function:

  • Good mathematical knowledge and experience of using Abbott approved computer statistical software packages.

  • Highly numerate with the ability to interpret large volumes of data and associated trends.

  • Good organisational skills, and the ability to meet project deadlines in a flexible and multi-disciplinary team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Team Lead/Management Experience would be an advantage but not essential.

Accountability

  • The position impacts on all aspects of the plant operation. The role is responsible for all statistical activities with cross functional teams such that the plant continues to meet the required regulations.

  • This role will work with different project/programme teams providing statistical support as required to meet the Longford site goals.

  • Decision making within confines of agreed performance goals.

  • Activities are broadly defined by agreed impact goals.

  • Discussion and direction occurs via regular team meetings and one-to-one meetings with Manager

  • Review and feedback occurs via periodic goal reviews, annual performance and career development reviews.
