JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Senior Engineer, R&D. to use multidisciplinary engineering knowledge and experience to make critical contributions to a team designing and developing innovative mechanical and electro-mechanical medical devices in support of the company’s strategic plan. Apply engineering expertise and analytical and practical engineering principles in leading the design and analysis of mechanical systems. Provide a level of leadership, technical expertise, enthusiasm and innovation engaging with cross-functional teams to resolve technical problems. Possess an affinity to learn, grow and mentor while collaborating with team members from different geographical regions, as well as with suppliers and customers.

Job Duties

  • Design and develop devices to diagnose and treat cardiac arrhythmias

  • Fabricate and test prototypes

  • Establish design performance requirements and specifications

  • Use experimental, empirical and numerical analysis to evaluate designs

  • Develop models and test methods

  • Identify and mitigate project risks

  • Work with internal departments and external vendors to obtain prototype parts

  • Support pre-clinical testing of devices

  • Lead design reviews and support physician visits

  • Maintain understanding of the developing clinical environment

  • Maintain understanding of Abbott and external regulatory policies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering

  • 5+ years’ experience developing new products

  • Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability

  • Ability to lead small teams and to work within large multi-discipline teams as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize

  • Working knowledge of design tools and techniques such as CAD, Six Sigma, DFM, and DOE

  • Ability to travel approximately 5%, including internationally
