Primary Job Function

Provides compliance expertise for Abbott’s ethics and compliance program (OEC) at Abbott Vascular. Responsible for oversight and management of multiple subject areas in the Abbott Vascular compliance program. Provides practical guidance to the Abbott Vascular business globally to ensure business practices are conducted in accordance with company policies and other relevant requirements. Directs efforts to identify, assess, and manage compliance-related risks, including through risk assessment and implementation of effective policies and procedures, training and education, and monitoring. Regularly communicates with division management on the state of the compliance program and collaborates with stakeholders to develop action plans to manage compliance risks.

Core Job Responsibilities

Provides leadership, guidance, and support to all levels of divisional business functions on highly complex ethics and compliance issues, including policy interpretation, compliance risk assessment, trend analysis and best practice recommendations. Resolves highly complex ethics and compliance matters that have significant and possibly material impact to Abbott.

  • Provides solid advice and business acumen on proposed commercial programs, identifies complex legal and regulatory issues, analyzes alternatives and works with the Legal Department and Regulatory Affairs, as appropriate, to propose solutions to the business.

  • Develops in-depth knowledge of Abbott’s businesses and knowledge of the broader business impact.

  • Directs and conducts periodic reviews and updates to OEC policies and divisional procedures, ensuring clarity, applicability and alignment with higher level policies and external requirements, with minimal supervision.

  • Develops, implements, delivers, and updates OEC’s comprehensive training program on complex divisional policies and procedures.

  • Provides oversight to corporate and/or divisional monitoring process to ensure compliance with OEC policies and procedures. Reviews industry trends and internal monitoring results to recommend corrective actions.

  • Leads highly complex cross-functional teams.

Position Accountability/Scope

  • Accountable to the Director of OEC for Abbott Vascular.

  • Scope will include compliance matters that impact Abbott Vascular around the world.

  • Operates with autonomy and limited supervision.

  • Demonstrates strong collaboration competencies and team orientation.

Minimum Education

BA/BS required. JD or advanced degree preferred.

Minimum Experience/Training Required

Six or more years of experience with, or exposure to, business functions such as compliance, legal, regulatory affairs, government affairs, and/or finance. Experience working in medical device or life sciences industry, a strong plus.

Must have strong people skills – including an ability to relate and deal effectively with people at all levels. Must have highly developed communication and influencing skills.
