Abbott Supplier Account Manager in Witney, United Kingdom

JOB DESCRIPTION:

With a track record of innovation and development, Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge glucose monitoring systems, for use in both home and hospital settings.

We have a Global Centre of Excellence for Medical Devices based in Witney, Oxfordshire. The site manufactures over 2 billion test strips annually and has also been instrumental in the research, development and manufacture of the next generation FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System.

We now have a permanent opportunity for a procurement professional to join our team as a Supplier Account Manager.

Primary function:

To manage the procurement process for defined categories of materials and/or services. This includes supplier selection, negotiation, contracting and development of strategies to support cost reduction, quality improvements and risk mitigation.

Major responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing the overall relationship with selected suppliers and acting as the primary interface between those suppliers and internal functions.

  • Overall procurement responsibility for selected categories of materials and/or services.

  • Managing supplier pricing/cost structure to best advantage and to deliver against material cost budgets.

  • Leading cost reduction projects with existing and potential alternative suppliers through competitive tendering, negotiation and identification of cost reduction opportunities.

  • Developing relationships with key suppliers as appropriate.

  • Maintaining and enhancing relationships with user departments to implement improvements in the supply chain to reduce lead times, inventory and material liabilities.

  • Early identification of any potential risk to supply continuity.

  • Working with Supplier Quality Assurance to evaluate and support audits of suppliers with regard to performance and to highlight potential issues.

  • Working as an effective and influential team member wherever direct control is not applicable including Abbott GPS initiatives.

  • Responsible for maintaining the effectiveness of the Quality System at the site in accordance with divisional requirements.

Minimum education :

Degree educated to demonstrate ability to grasp complex issues and the analytical skills necessary to resolve them. Relevant professional qualification e.g. CIPS Graduate Diploma required or willingness to complete.

Experience / skills required:

  • Experience of influencing cross-functional project teams both internally and externally.

  • Experience of cost reduction initiatives and the planning and implementation of change.

  • The ability to work autonomously, under considerable pressure to achieve tight timelines with changing and diverse business prioritisation.

  • Experience of data analysis/evaluation and decision making based on the findings.

  • Experience of building working relationships with a view to performance improvement.

  • All of these experience requirements are necessary to ensure that the role is performed to an acceptable level of professionalism, integrity and confidence to meet the needs of the organisation, internal customers as well as suppliers
