Job Description Summary
A Patent Searcher to define and conduct patent, scientific, business and other IP-related information searches. Review, analyze and synthesize search results. Present deliverables to clients in order to enable IP legal assessments, and to support decision-making within the R&D, New Business Development, and overall business process. Main outputs are:
Novelty and patentability searches
Patent opposition/invalidity studies
Due diligence support
Monitoring third party patent applications, patent families and legal status
Report search results with value-added analysis to the Patent Counsels
Define the search strategy (databases, classes and codes, keywords and indexing)
Search relevant information within available resources
Discuss strategies and relevant criteria, and report outcomes with the Patent Counsel and/or involved scientist or internal client
Monitor, update and improve his/her knowledge and expertise with respect to patent searching tools and resources
B.S. required. MS or PhD. in biological sciences/chemistry/engineering preferred
At least 3-5 years patent examining or patent searching experience in the healthcare/medical device/pharmaceutical industry, preferred
Major patent related databases and hosts like STN, Questel, Dialog,
Text-mining and visualization tools
Patent law or training in intellectual property
Current developments in the patent information field
