  • Solicit, support, integrate and disseminate investigator-generated data

o Provide an informed and strategically-aligned medical science perspective to the business unit:

 Solicit potential investigators for area of overlap between the BU’s core areas of strategic interest and the intellectual pursuits of the investigators

 Perform regular gap analyses in collaboration with clinical research directors, medical directors, and clinical divisional vice president along with direct contact with potential investigators to understand opportunity of research in need of external contribution

 Provide scientific input into company-sponsored trials including protocol design, site and investigator selection, barriers to enrollment and best practices for optimal trial conduct

 Create, implement and manage the process to ship investigative product or commercial product for investigational purposes

 Convey Key Opinion Leader (KOL) and subject matter expert (SME) scientific intelligence to key Abbott BU stakeholders to optimize clinical trial design and conduct

o Responsible for managing ongoing communications regarding ongoing ISS projects to include updates from ISS sites regarding status/progress as well as communication to ISS sites if cancelation is determined

o Understand and disseminate relevant scientific data through internal and external channels in a timely fashion

o Where appropriate, facilitate the linkage of investigators of area of mutual interest

o When needed, support needs of Medical Device Regulation (MDR) process with supporting evidence inquiries from regulatory partners

  • Develop strategic scientific relationships with KOLs and scientific societies

o Identify key stakeholders in the relevant therapeutic areas

o Gather scientific intelligence

  • Scientific Communication

o In collaboration with Clinical Marketing

 Optimally articulate product positioning and brand essence, develop and sustain key messages and claims

 Support development of a strategic Publication Plan encompassing key internal data and relevant updates relative to disease states including

 Determine and drive timing of abstract submissions

 Determine and drive sequencing of key manuscript submissions to maximize business benefit

  • Compliance

o Adhere to Abbott corporate, business unit and local/country compliance regulations.

o Adhere to local governmental regulations.


o Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Life Science. Advanced degree strongly preferred. Significant industry experience in relevant therapeutic area may be accepted in lieu of education requirements.

o 3-5 years of clinically or scientifically relevant experience, preferably in neuromodulation and/or class 3 medical device space.
