We currently have a vacancy for a Planning and Purchasing Team Leader and this position will include the following:

Department Function

To ensure that AIDD meets its product availability goal to its customer, while meeting:

  • Inventory goals,

  • Quality goals,

  • Cost goals, and

  • Safety goals.

Primary Function

Overall responsibility for:

  • Inventory planning and management,

  • Promote use of Inventory Control System

  • Execution of work in compliance with AIDD and Divisional

  • procedures and policies,

  • Product availability, ensuring a safe working environment.

Environmental Health & Safety

Ensure Environmental Health & Safety standards are met and all EHS regulations and procedures are adhered to. Foster an awareness of Environmental Health & Safety in the plant and promote a culture of continuous improvement.


The position reports to the Planning and Purchasing Manager or in his/her absence to the Supply Chain Manager.

Supervisory/ Management Responsibility

The Planning and Purchasing Unit/Team Leader is responsible for the supervision of all staff in the Planning and Purchasing groups.

Additionally the position will require a managerial role in the following areas:

  • Contacts with all levels of management within the plant.

  • Contact third party vendors.

Contacts with Abbott personnel in other affiliates especially in purchasing/ shipping/distribution/ marketing.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Minimize distressed inventory.

  • Maintain Manufacturing Oder Fill Rate and Customer On Time in Full and prevent back orders/stock outs.

  • Manage WIP and Finished Goods inventories.

  • Ensure adequate issuances and handling of shop order documentation.

  • Promote use of Inventory Control System and Production Scheduling System.

  • Maintain product availability.

  • Maintain settings/parameters in the Inventory Control System.

  • Generate and review planning / purchasing and inventory metrics.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement through active deployment and participation in the plant’s Business Excellence Programme.

  • Ensure adequate training and development of planning / purchasing staff by good communication and identifying actual training needs.

  • Maintain close liaison and co-operation with all other departments, affiliates and personnel in order to optimize the plants operations.

  • Ensure execution of activities in compliance with AIDD and Divisional Quality procedures and policies.

  • Ensure Environmental Health & Safety standards are met and all EHS regulations and procedures are adhered to.

  • Manage areas of responsibility to ensure employees are adequately trained to perform· their role safely and foster a culture of environmental and safety awareness as required by the site EHS program .

  • Complete all activities in a safe manner ensuring that any potential safety issues and areas for improvement are addressed.

  • Ensure Environmental procedures eg recycling, waste minimization are adhered to and improvements made where possible.

  • Optimise the use of human resources by encouraging an atmosphere of involvement, open communication and effective teamwork.

  • On an annual basis, establish the functional goals for area of responsibility with Manager. Update and review progress against goals on a quarterly basis.

  • Complete Goal Setting, performance reviews/appraisals and development plans for direct reports.

Education & Experience

You will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Appropriate qualification in either Purchasing/ Production Planning e.g. Diploma in Purchasing or relevant APICS (American Production and Inventory Control Society) examinations.


  • General Degree with relevant Supply Chain experience.


3+years’ experience in a regulated manufacturing environment preferably working in Supply Chain


Ideally with a minimum of 1years people management experience
