Hi! I’m Tik, one of the Engineering Managers in the Automation and Informatics organization in charge of system testing and engineering technicians. You may be asking yourself, what is Automation and Informatics? Well, my group tests and supports our laboratory automation track systems with several modules and analyzers connected that will automatically route sample tubes to their desired locations. The informatics part comes in with the upper middleware which communicates tests ordered to the track software and sends results to the hospital laboratory informatics system.
I am looking for a motivated Engineering Technician that will support the laboratory activities required for projects. This requires knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatics, and fluidics systems to troubleshoot and resolve issues. On occasion, you may have to program boards when a new firmware is received or install new modules to the track. Also, there are general lab duties that are expected to be performed everyday such as analyzer / track maintenance, DI Water maintenance, owning the department’s calibrated equipment, and keeping the labs organized. Must document all changes and maintenance per our procedures. A strong team player is desired as this position will need to work with other areas of our department as well as other departments such as R&D and Global Service.
This position provides specialized technical support services by performing any combination of complex or non-routine duties involving the selection and use of procedures and/or equipment in support of medical diagnostic instrument and/or reagent development and production.
Problem Solving: Resolves non-routine, complex problems with data gathering, research, analysis and interpretive activities.
Uses factual information, policy and procedures to determine solutions with minimal supervision.
Verifies experimental data for usefulness and accuracy.
Impact on Operations/Effect of Errors: Tasks, activities and/or information used to make decisions which are in direct support of the department's primary function.
Effect of errors may have significant impact in terms of time or money.
High school or equivalency is required. Associates degree, or equivalent experience, is required. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Work requires the theoretical and conceptual knowledge associated with an associate’s degree. This position requires five or more years related technical experience. Training includes on the job training. Degree of physical effort and environment: Normal work fatigue. Normally safe environment. Typical electronic manufacturing/laboratory/office environment. Some work subject to frequent hand/eye coordination, lifting/carrying of objects or operating equipment. Work may be subject to moderately unpleasant conditions. (Applies to biohazard only.)
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience with two or more of the following:
Strong troubleshooting skills
Some degree of physical effort (lifting / carrying objects or operating equipment)
The position will include on the job training. The laboratories are biohazardous.
