The IT Business Consultant is the primary liaison between IT and the Abbott Diagnostic’s Global Marketing organization.

The role is responsible for understanding the business strategy, analyzing business processes; eliciting, analyzing, and documenting business requirements. This person identifies and communicates resulting needs and opportunities that can be enabled via technology and serves as a strong communicator of the business drivers, processes and organization structure and dynamics of the business area.

The IT Business Consultant acts as a liaison and business process expert to IT organizations to assure successful solution implementations. The role partners with Corporate IT and external suppliers in the delivery of solutions.

This individual will utilize soft skills to build and enhance relationships with the Abbott Diagnostic’s Global Marketing business community and partner with the business to develop long-term strategic plans, as well as manage portfolio and tactical projects aimed at improving business effectiveness.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Influences and partners with business to understand business strategy. Interacts on a regular basis with business clients to ensure needs are understood and IT updates are communicated on a consistent basis.

  • Analyzes business processes; elicits, analyzes, and documents business requirements; identifies alternative solutions, assesses feasibility and makes recommendations typically seeking to exploit and leverage new or existing IT technology components.

  • Possesses an excellent understanding of the business processes, strategy and global perspective.

  • Identifies IT capabilities required to support the business processes and collaborates in the development of information management strategies, developing them as an integrated part of the business strategy.

  • Identifies industry trends and makes recommendations on how to enhance the existing business processes.

  • Communicates business requirements and performs business process mapping.

  • Partners with Corporate IT and external suppliers to ensure user and functional requirements are understood.

  • Reviews IT Statements of Work to ensure they clearly articulate the business need and elevates concern if estimates don’t seem to be in line with the work effort required to deliver the solution.

  • Ensures IT Project Management, Development, Testing and Implementation activities are established per project with IT suppliers.

  • Represents the business to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and per defined requirements, in-line with service levels.

  • Escalates issues to IT Management, as needed.

  • Ensures IT technical and help-desk support is delivered via Corporate IT functions.

  • Coordinates User Acceptance Testing and Training with business teams, as required, per project.

  • Establishes and maintains productive relationships across all levels within the Abbott IT organization and external suppliers.

  • Aware of evolving regulatory, legal and economic impacts for Global Marketing.

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures.

  • Provides regular status reporting and business insight to IT Leadership.

  • May have indirect project team or functional area supervisory responsibility

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in business analysis, requirements gathering and solution delivery.

  • Associates Degree required/Bachelor’s Degree preferred with Minimum 5 years of experience in managing IT projects.

  • Proven experience in delivering consistent results to the business.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.

  • Strong knowledge of the IT Software Life Cycle and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.

  • Proven ability to manage efforts independently while also being a strong team player in group projects.

  • Ability to multi-task across several active projects at the same time.

  • Experienced in managing conflicts.

  • Previous experience with Websites, Mobile/Digital technologies and software validation is preferred.

  • Must be comfortable in collaborating with business leads, understanding business strategy/processes, looking for innovative solutions to drive business enhancements both for internal business users and external customers.

  • Ability to coach or mentor less senior team members.

  • Previous budget management a plus.
