We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety Manger that supports the development of health, safety and environmental management systems and their implementation and maintenance for Abbott in accordance with recognized standards.
Partners with management to establish targets and objectives related to environmental health and safety with the division operational leadership.
Provides effective leadership/support on compliance with associated regulatory requirements including but not necessarily limited to (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA).

Works to decrease operational expenses by eliminating or reducing waste, identifying recoverable resources, reducing packaging costs, reducing insurance costs, reducing operational costs, reducing energy consumption, avoiding potential catastrophic events.
Ensure a consistent approach to the establishment of objectives and processes to deliver results in accordance with Abbott Safety and Environmental policies.
Ensure that EHS performance meets or exceeds the neuromodulation divisions established legal and policy requirements.
Ensure the control of occupational health and safety risks and the affectivity of the established monitoring methods.
Support the development of division environmental health and safety policies/programs.
Participates in the development of targets and objectives related to EHS with Operations in order to meet corporate objectives. Effectively communicates environmental health and safety targets and objectives within Abbott.
Serve as site EMR role in support of division ISO 14001 program development, implementation and registration. Serves at divisional ISO expert in the technical aspects and ongoing maintenance of the program.
Establish, implement and maintain EMS (including documentation)
Provide input on performance and recommendations for improvement
Environmental response review, critique and update
Communicate environmental emergencies to operations, site leadership, corporate as applicable.
Serve as environmental audit point of contact for internal and external auditors
Chairs site EMS team and assures tracking towards goals
Manages compliance permit process and periodic reports
Assists, oversees and track’s EMP’s
Updates, posts and communicates Aspect List (new or modified)
Maintains and posts significant aspects
Communicates EMS expectations
Assists with CAPA closure and determining root cause and corrective action effectiveness
Investigates non-conformity, assure root cause analysis, review and completion
Provides input and support for Management Review process
Supports legal and regulatory compliance audits and other regulatory activities
Reviews operations for other compliance activities
Manages/oversees day to day environmental activities to insure compliance.
Develops strategy for the realization of division environmental objectives. For example: greenhouse gas emissions inventory; recycling initiatives, environmental stewardship efforts, etc.
Provides work direction and support to EHS Specialist.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of Federal, State and local regulatory requirements that impact SJM operations.
Develops EHS databases for managing environmental health and safety target initiatives.
Effectively supports the management of the department budget.
Hires and retains a diverse, highly qualified staff and provides ongoing performance feedback. Sets goals which align to department plans and manages the execution of goals through coaching and mentoring. Maintains a safe and professional work environment.
Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.

Master’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Health and Safety field with both hands on and program management experience.
Experience in managing and leading people and organizations
Ability to navigate and interpret OSHA regulations, fire codes and applicable regulations.
Expected to function with little direction and be able to independently drive complex projects to completion.
Solid understanding of the technical skills necessary to perform traditional EHS duties but at a higher more independent level.
Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and daily responsibilities.
Ability to discern and appropriately communicate sensitive issues.
Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model preferred.
Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.
Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment.
Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
Multi-tasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable.
Ability to travel 10% domestically.
