Our location in Plano, TX currently has an opportunity for a Staff System Design Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to join Abbott's dynamic, growing new product development team committed to innovating the treatment of chronic pain and motion disorder.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The System Design Engineer will participate the detailed system design activities within a therapy group from design initiation through commercial launch. The related work covers architecting the system, designing the interfaces and interactions between complex components of a Neuromodulation therapy system, including but not limited to the algorithms, electro-mechanical interfaces, data management, communication and cybersecurity.
They will support the system requirement team in the generation and allocation of design input.
They will work with the functional team architect (EE/ME/FW/SW) to guide the detailed design implementation. They will also provide critical system design input to the system integration and validation and verification team on test case/methodology development.
The System Design Engineer works in a fast-paced cross-functional technical team environment, using the latest technologies and industry practices to push for excellence in themselves and the team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
BS/MS Degree in electrical, computer engineering, physics or related field
8+ years of experience in an R&D role
Experience in the successful delivery of complex technology programs
Experience in R&D development, including the system architect, design and integration of complex multi-discipline systems
Experience in designing/developing embedded systems, work includes, hardware, firmware, interface to software, wireless communication design, control systems etc.
Collaborative, team oriented
Strong written, verbal, and communication skills
PhD degree in electrical, computer engineering, physics or related field is a plus
Experience with data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence algorithms is a plus
Agile development methods and best practices is a plus
Experience designing systems according to IEC60601 and ISO14708-1 compliance standards. Knowledge of developing products in a regulated environment, medical device industry is a plus
