Abbott RapidDiagnostics (formerly Alere ) is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies. The position of SupplierQuality Professional II is within our Infectious Disease Developed Markets located at Scarborough, Maine. This role will be responsible for all existing part specifications, resolving raw material issues, supporting cost savings initiatives, improving efficiency through material and process improvement, reducing material cost, and improving the supplier base through monitoring and measurement. Assures compliance with cGMP, quality, and safety standards within vendor base and department.

  • Manages several projects independently,maintain timelines, priorities and executes tasks in a manner thatsupports the organization’s top-level project goals

  • Analyzes current raw material specificationsto ensure appropriate features and limits are in place to support Companymanufacturing processes. Defines appropriate incominginspection requirements. Materials may include biologicals, printedmaterials and plastics.

  • Evaluates vendor and Company initiated rawmaterial changes and coordinates appropriate testing and validation asrequired.

  • Suggests and supports new methods ormaterials for continual improvement in the quality or efficiency of aproduct or process.

  • Works to reduce costs in all areas of manufacturing.

  • Creates and revises manufacturing documents,specifications, SOPs, safety instructions, validation protocols andprocedures and other technical documents to ensure compliance and safety.

  • Participates in/leads vendor audit program(travel will be required).

  • Monitors vendor performance in the areas ofquality, on time delivery, and corrective actions.

  • Researches solutions to a diverse set ofchallenges in production and development.

  • Actively participates in teams as necessaryto promote continuous improvement and lean initiatives.

  • Communicates material issues with vendorsand document corrective actions.

  • Participates in vendor RFQ’s and followsthrough process to implementation.


  • Bachelor's degree in Biology,Manufacturing, Engineering or other related technical/scientificdiscipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years’experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Minimum of 1 yearexperience in a quality or supplier engineering role.

  • Prior experience workingon a GMP or FDA regulated environment.

  • Ability to travel at least25% of time


  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MRPManufacturing Software.
