Job Description

  • Establish requirements and specifications for these devices (including justification and supportive testing)

  • Lead Mechanical Design efforts and responsible in support of process development, characterization, verification and validation.

  • Use experimental, empirical and numerical analysis to evaluate designs.Lead test method and model development.

  • Identify and mitigate project risks

  • Work with internal departments and external vendors to obtain prototype parts and to expand these groups’ capabilities

  • Lead design reviews and support physician visits.

  • Maintain a detailed understanding of SJM, FDA and ISO regulation.Provide input into shaping SJM quality and regulatory requirements

  • Work with project management to develop overall schedule. Manage time and tasks within schedule

  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.

  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

  • Evaluates mechanical and electromechanical product design and ability to identify potential design issues and drive technical decisions

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.

General Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • MS degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred

  • 5+years experience

  • Experience designing and testing closely related medical devices required

  • Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability preferred.

  • Ability to lead small teams and to work within large multi-discipline teams as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • Experience in microelectronics design and assembly techniques and components packaging

  • Use FEA and other simulation tools to model and predict fundamental electric machine mechanical, thermal and electromagnetic behavior

  • Experience in using a variety of engineering tools like Creo or other CAD experience

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.

  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.

  • Exposure to latest design tools and techniques (six sigma, DFM, analytical design)

  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.

  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.

  • Ability to travel approximately 15%, including internationally
