We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Senior Electrical Engineer to apply electrical engineering knowledge and skills to the design and development of mechanical circulatory support systems and related applications.

Impact this role will have:

  • Design and development of analog and digital circuits, including sensors, power supplies, signal acquisition/conditioning, batteries, ESD protection, EMI reduction and micro-controllers

  • Utilization of circuit simulation and modeling techniques to support design and development

  • Laying out and constructing a variety of prototype tools, boards and test fixtures required for development purposes

  • Conducting characterization testing, verification and analyses related to feasibility and function

  • Preparation of requirements documents, design verification and validation documents, FMEA documents, as well as conducting technical design reviews for hardware, firmware and PCBs

  • Troubleshooting and debugging intermittent system level problems down to root causes with respect to circuit design, firmware, PCB and component failures with latest electrical and electronic equipment

  • Assisting with the planning, organization, and execution of projects involving all aspects of electronic and electromechanical systems design and test

  • Supporting all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.

  • Complying with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

Your experience(s), education and knowledge will further expand Abbotts marketplace success:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with ten plus years of experience or MSEE with eight years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with schematic entry and layout tools

  • Expertise in the use of standard electronic laboratory equipment, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.

  • Strong technical leadership

  • Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills

Your preferred qualifications and education:

  • Prefer experience with relevant standards and regulatory requirements (FDA, ISO, AIMDD)

  • Experience with embedded control software (C and/or C++) preferred

  • Experience with MatLab, Hyperlynx and SPICE preferred

  • Experience with Statistical Analysis and concepts preferred

  • Familiarity with PCB and PCBA manufacturing processes

  • Familiarity with battery technologies a plus

  • Experience with implantable electronics (AICD, PaceMakers, Cardiac Monitors) a plus
