Primary Function / Primary Goals / Objectives:

The primary function of this position is to coordinate the training efforts for the area of support and to ensure that related job function documents are current and consistent with each other, accurately reflecting the methods used to perform various functions by the area’s personnel. This includes the planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of training activities for annual training requirements, technical on-the-job training, new employee/transfer training, Good Manufacturing Practices training, safety training, development training, and other training as designated by their supervisor, manager, or management of the area they support. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring that job related information is consistent with work orders, job procedures, job aids, OJT’s and Job Safety Analysis documents.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

Coordination of the following training as required or as-needed:

  • Safety

  • GMP

  • Technical and procedural training

  • New equipment or updated process/procedure or other business conditions

Ensure consistency of technical training. Ensure there is consistency between the methods described in the Work Orders, Job Procedures, and Job Safety Analysis. Monitor and track the department training activities of the area supported. Maintain close liaison with the area they support as well as all other areas of the plant. This would also include peers or employees at the other sites. Partner with management to ensure the utilization of the most efficient resources, both internal and external, to accomplish the training objectives. Write, issue and update job aids and other training documents as needed by the department. Partner with all areas of the plant to develop and implement new directions from Division and Corporate. Develop, update, and track on-the-job technical training for all new department personnel or those assuming new positions within the department. Assist in the development and facilitation of department training in monthly department meetings. Partner with all areas of the plant to develop and implement new directives from Division and Corporate.

Provides technical guidance and support to plant.

Performs other work related duties as assigned.


Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

Optional: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Science, Food Technology, Education and Development, or

Human Resources

This is required to provide the technical and administrative responsibilities needed to coordinate and conduct training in a manufacturing environment.


Incumbent should have a minimum of 2 years of manufacturing experience relevant to the area of support.

This job requires a working knowledge of the manufacturing principles and techniques as well as various techniques for training both technical and non-technical subjects. Incumbent must be able to solve problems by determining the root cause and develop a sound plan to address the problem.

Incumbent must also utilize strategic planning skills and a long-range perspective in order to adequately prepare the organization for future demands and avoidance of potential problem areas.

Accountability / Scope/Budget:

This position impacts directly on the end results of department and plant goals, which include:

Responsibility for compliance with all training requirements. Compliance to all SPCP’s, GMP’s, housekeeping and sanitation, safety and regulatory agency regulations. Coordination of training which directly affects manufacturing costs through both preventive and corrective training. Responsibility for the overall coordination of training which affects cost reductions, material variance, labor efficiency, safety, GMP compliance, uptime and employee development. Participates as an active team member on department project/process research and implementation. Job involves a large degree of latitude in problem solving due to changes in procedures, equipment, personnel and regulations. Meets bi-weekly with direct supervisor and as needed with all others.

Involvement with personnel issues and disciplinary action may occur as it relates to proper training and documentation of the training records. A Technical Training Specialist may be asked to provide the supervisor or manager of the area they support with a confidential, objective, and impartial assessment of how employees are progressing in their training.
