Abbott Digital Connectivity & Solutions Manager in South Africa

Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (formerly Alere ) is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies.

The candidate will collaborate closely with the Connected Solutions, Product Marketing Director, IDEM to drive, execute and measure regional digital connectivity solutions activities that create value across ARDx regional franchises (HIV, VBD, Hep/ANC and Respiratory). The candidate is responsible for the regional long-term transition of most testing modalities towards a digital and connected mode. Digitalization is the next breakthrough in rapid diagnostics.

The Digital Connectivity & Solutions Manager will also leverage in-depth regional customer insights, focus group panels and competitive intelligence to commercialize customer-centric testing panels and effective screening programs designed to form a differentiated offering and Increase customer loyalty. Craft a differentiated customer value proposition as well as leveraging digital connectivity to drive value creation.


Strategy Execution

  • Develop insight-driven digital connectivity strategies and product roadmaps and work with sales team to execute

  • Develop regional franchise strategy, in close collaboration with other functions and leader

  • Define and drive future product roadmap to meet regional growth goals

  • Develop channels to establish customer-centric journeys from opportunity identification to user experience with intention to improve user experience

  • Contribute to regional business strategy from the ARDx perspective

Product Management

  • Serve as a go-to business partner for all questions from the franchise teams and regional stakeholders with respect to digital connected solutions and communication

  • Drive segmentation, targeting and positioning through quantitative and qualitative analysis, segmentation tools as well as customer and sales insights

  • Identification and introduction of new digital product capabilities to be offered

  • Establish market research needs, commission and execute research as needed

  • Articulate differentiated value propositions for targeted customer segments

Marketing Activities

  • Craft and develop marketing plans to drive digital connected solutions adoption & regional revenue growth

  • Develop and own branding and messaging for competitive advantage

  • Maintain accurate and current competitive intelligence, pre-empt competitors and develop appropriate and timely response

  • Develop/enhance sales tools as well as marketing and training collateral related to ARDx digital connected solutions

  • Plan and execute promotional campaigns, with materials and collaterals


  • Drive and coordinate regional franchise-specific marketing activities, promotions and projects with other functions

  • Maintain effective internal alignment on growth goals, messaging and positioning with all relevant functions and internal stakeholders

  • Be the internal champion for customer needs

  • Drive digital connectedness with both, customers and sales

Qualifications and experience required :

  • Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and Business Management

  • Advanced degree preferred (e.g. MBA, Healthcare Technology, & Technical Marketing/Management

  • 3-5 years of relevant digital connected marketing experiences (e.g. marketing, digital consulting, field marketing & technical sales)

  • Successful track record in medical devices, IoT, or diagnostics fields

  • Market & customer-oriented: translating customer and sales input into actions

  • Analytical: synthesizing and utilizing data to derive actionable insights

  • Collaborative: able to work closely with a range of cross-functional partners

  • Organized and able to effectively prioritize

  • Self-starter with a hands-on & can-do mindset: willing to own up and get personally involved to resolve issues

  • Fast learner, intellectually curious and agile: able to quickly grasp and apply new scientific, clinical, or business concepts

  • Effective in regulated environment: maintaining compliance while achieving commercial goals
