Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) is looking for a Medical Director DACH (m/f), based in Wiesbaden. The position holder will be leading the Abbott Diabetes Care’s medical affairs activities for the DACH area (Germany, Austria, Switzerland)

  • The main objective is to establish continuous interstitial fluid glucose monitoring, and the derived parameters and reports, as the new standard of care in the territory. The DACH territory is currently a very important Freestyle Libre territory for ADC, constituting a significant portion of the global market share.

  • The implementation of interstitial fluid glucose monitoring as the new standard of care, anchored in national guidelines of the respective professional associations, is critical for the business, as this is a prerequisite for expansion into further segments of the market. Accordingly, this position will establish a strong network in all three countries and leverage critical relationships with local key opinion leaders and engage in alliance projects related to research, medical education, and medical communication.

  • Serve as subject matter expert in medical practice and patient management. Provide medical support for the commercial and market access organizations.

  • Provide strategic guidance through participation in key associations (medical, clinical, industry) to influence policy and regulations regarding medical devices.

  • Position reports to the Regional Medical Director EMEAP.

Responsibilities:

  • Local responsibility for all medical affairs functions in DACH countries, providing medical oversight and decision making for all critical product issues. Ensure medical research activities meet business goals.

  • Partner with the ADC organizations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland to support local strategies. Pilot new projects involving the medical community in alliance with global functions. Lead and execute ADC’s activities in training and continuous medical education.

  • Build trusted and strategic relationships with the local medical community in diabetes care and identify partnering opportunities.

  • Analyze treatment patterns and monitor development of local treatment guidelines.

  • Develop appropriate medical argumentation to support the use of our products by health care professionals in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

  • Participate and represent ADC interests in national medical /industry/governmental organizations in all three countries and on specific occasions (e.g. scientific hearings).

  • Be a subject matter expert in HTA (health technology assessment) and EBM (evidence-based medicine) recommendations on Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) and Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM).

Qualification:

  • MD or PhD degree

  • Board certification and specialization in endocrinology / diabetes care.

  • Hands-on experience in the management of patient with diabetes.

  • Knowledge of clinical research, medical risk management and/or medical device regulations is preferred.

  • Relevant management experience in medical device / pharma / consulting / payers or other relevant organization in one of the national health care systems.

  • Team oriented with the confidence, maturity and integrity to work effectively as a member of one of the top companies in the medical device industry.

  • Excellent communication/organization skills required.
