Corporate Finance Services (CFS) is the central finance organization for Abbott in The Netherlands, supporting all 9 Abbott sites and 20+ legal entities in The Netherlands, in the areas of Financial Planning & Projects, Controlling, Financial Compliance and Risk Management, Tax & Customs.

For our Corporate Finance Services Organization based in Zwolle we are looking for a:

Specialist Customs and Trade Compliance

Execution of all import and export formalities as well as responsible for monitoring the customs and agricultural developments in the EU and affecting Abbott the Netherlands entities under the responsibility of the centrally managed accounting organization CFS. Correct inbound/outbound procedures in a timely manner so no delays occur in the supply chain. Responsible for data set in the Master data file.

Core responsibilities

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable corporate, divisional and local policies and procedures.

  • Contribute to enhancing the compliance awareness of all employees of Abbott in the Netherlands.

  • Build and maintain a sustainable and high quality relationship across all levels and businesses in the Netherlands and across other Abbott entities and HQ.

  • Regular interaction and communication with the other financial departments of IFO, Customer Service and Supply departments, relevant departments in other Abbott affiliates.

  • Manage (non) preferential origin.

  • Manage customs documents for inbound/outbound (export declarations, T1, ATR).

  • Manage internal and external customs audits.

  • Act as first point of contact toward customs authorities.

  • Responsible for classifications of (new) products.

  • Responsible for changes and maintenance in origin.

  • Assist Manager Customs and Trade Compliance & Tax with projects.

  • Manage import/export licenses for controlled drugs.

  • Manage Bonded Warehouse administration and file monthly customs declaration.

  • Manage Inward Processing Relief administration and file monthly customs declaration.

  • Manage Customs Control Framework / AOIB / work instructions.

  • Ensure accurate Master file Data (PIM).

  • ERP/customs software maintenance/updates.

  • Responsible for continuous drive AEO compliance and security monitoring requirements.

  • Responsible for deploying people, processes, and tools to ensure that all levels of the organization are aware and capable of fulfilling customs and trade compliance requirements as, Classification, Export Control, Origin, Custom Valuation etc.

  • Responsible for driving cost out - avoidance opportunities through all relevant programs within the Customs & Trade Compliance department.

  • Responsible for identifying areas for immediate focus on identified risks.


  • Professional. Knowledge in a technical, scientific or specialized field built on an understanding of the theoretical concepts and principles and their context. This knowledge is typically acquired through professional qualification and/or through extensive practical experience.

  • Knowledge of Prolaunch disciplines, Six Sigma and Project Management methodology.

  • Knowledge of audit and assessment procedures and evaluation of internal controls.

  • Expert and on-the-ground resource for import and export regulations and compliance matters.

  • HBO/HBO+ degree in business economics, accountancy or similar.

  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant financial (compliance) role in an International environment.

  • Preferably previously worked for a logistics company or at a customs/logistics department.

  • Experience working across multiple levels (including executive level), functions and regions.

  • Solid PC skills.

  • Speaks and writes English and Dutch fluently.

  • Can cope with the different cultures within the different Abbott entities.
